This artificial lake was created in 1972, when the Rasina River was dammed and a reservoir was formed. While its primary function was to control erosion and protect the flow of the Danube downstream at Đerdap, locals will share a more symbolic story: the last drop that filled the lake is said to have fallen just before the death of Josip Broz Tito. Symbolic or not, since then, the lake has become a true lifeline for the Rasina district, as it supplies high-quality drinking water to Kruševac and surrounding towns.

During the summer months, water temperatures can reach up to 27°C, making Ćelije an attractive spot for swimming – especially for those who prefer nature to crowded public pools.

With an irregular shape and over 20 kilometers of shoreline, the lake is perfect for anglers looking for peaceful spots to catch carp, zander, and catfish. There are no concrete walkways or city noise – just pure nature, silence, and the occasional clink of fishing gear.
