Blederija waterfall

At the foot of the mountain Miroč, at an altitude of 190m, is the Blederija waterfall. The waterfall is named after the river of the same name, which together with the tributaries Suvaja and Sokolovica flows into the Ravna river, otherwise a tributary of the Danube. It is located about 4 km from the village of Reka, which belongs to the municipality of Kladovo.

Like any natural, pristine gem Blederija waterfalls are well hidden. Adventurers heading to the waterfall will need a lot of effort, but once they find it they will realize that it was worth every minute spent finding Blederi. "Kladovo emerald", as it is still popularly called, is located a little more than 30 km from Kladovo itself.

When you reach Brza Palanka, at the very entrance you will see a sign for turning right to the village of Reka, or further to the waterfall. The last house in the village marks the end of the asphalt road and the beginning of the adventure. The road that leads to the waterfall is still dirt, only marked in some places. The Blederi river flows there leading to the waterfall, so you can make the adventure more interesting and reach Blederi by walking in shallow water. As you approach, the murmur of water becomes louder and louder, hinting at the beauty of the incredible scene. The waterfall is further down the steep slope and extra caution is required.

Blederija Waterfall - characteristics and interesting facts

Blederije Waterfall is not the largest waterfall in Serbia, nor does it belong to the waterfalls with the greatest water potential. Yet this waterfall is large enough to never dry up. Upstream, that is about 2 km from the waterfall on the right side are the springs of the river Blederija, among which there are several springs with ice water, as well as several waterfalls with sub thermal waters with a water temperature of about 17-18 degrees.

Blederija waterfall is about 7 m high. It collapses over the carbonate midriff (over carbonate sediments) into the carbonate riverbed, forming a lake of "emerald-green" color. For that reason, this waterfall is often reffered the "Kladovo emerald", a well-kept secret of Djerdap. They say that it is ideal to come to the waterfall in the early morning hours, when the color of the water is even more magnificent due to the position of the sun.

Below the large waterfall is a smaller waterfall that disappears during dry days, due to reduced water flow. After a couple of cascades, the river continues to flow.

The surrounding area consists of oaks and forests. As many as 78 species of medicinal herbs can be found in the area! A little more than 2 km from the waterfall downstream there is the Sokolovica cave with a spring.

An interesting thing about these areas is that there was a shortcut of the Roman road from Poreč, across Miroč to the Danube. The shortcut was in use until Emperor Trajan made his way through the cauldrons.
