Zlatar Mountain with the highest top called Golo brdo (1.627 m in altitude) raises above the banks of the rivers Lim, Uvac, Mileševka and Bistrica in Western Serbia and according to a special law of the Serbian Government, Zlatar was proclaimed an „air spa“. Picturesque pastures, meadows, and magnificent lakes surrounded with spruce and birch forests with the entirely ecologic characteristics of the wonderful Zlatar Mountain perform meaning and characteristics of its name /golden mountain - the Blacksmith flowering meadows rich in medicinal herbs, crystal emerald-green lakes surrounded with pine and birch forests. The harmony of the Mediterranean and mountainous climate, makes therapeutic air enriched with turpentine and ozone.

Zlatar has a great potential for development as a ski center, it has a sporty-recreational and rural heart, and represents the ideal location for excursions and weekend getaways. 800 m ski-lift is available for tourists during winter months, as well as a therapeutic spa facility for full relaxation and enjoyment.

Zlatar mountain, thanks to its morphology, pleasant climate, specific fauna and intact nature, ranks among the main tourist regions in Serbia, suitable for eco, sport and re-creative activities, nature-discovery excursions, health and wellness tourism, hunting, conventions and village tourism. The Uvac Special Nature Reserve, best represents the entire ecological region Itself, with rich crystal clear waters is abundant in fresh-water fish, the rafting and photo-safari programs attract many visitors. The 15 cycling routes of total 400 km have been marked within the West Serbia area, in favor of the active bikers and cyclists outdoor vacations. In this way the marked cycling routes connect tourist destination which provide visitors and locals to find the most appropriate for therir physical conditions. Zlatibor is connected with the Tara Mountain via Mokra gora, Divčibare with the Uzice area, Kosjeric and Pozega. Arilje and Ivanjica are connected with the Golija Mountain, Uvac Special Nature Reserve. For the active vacations in Serbia, there are available bikes to rent.

Rare & protected species of Zlatar

The largest habitat of the protected Balkan bird griffin vulture is located above the Uvac River Canyon, which belongs to the protected natural environment of Serbia.

Griffon vulture (Gyps fulvus) is a rare species of vulture eagle, impressive size, with a wingspan of up to 3 m. The average weight of a bird is between 8 and 9 kg, and some can reach a weight of 11 kg. The female, at the end of January or the beginning of February, lays only one egg and both parents lay on it for eight weeks.

This rare species was on the verge of extinction about twenty years ago. In 1990, only 7 griffon vultures survived on the territory of Uvac lakes. In 1994, the Fund for the Protection of Birds of Prey "Griffon Vulture" was established.

Little bit of an adrenaline

Since 2014, the stay on Mountain Zlatar has been completed by the opening of the second largest Adrenaline Park in Serbia. The park is located directly in front of the Panorama Hotel, and is intended for all visitors who love fun, adventure and fun. Adrenaline Park at Zlatar is a park consisting of platforms on trees, among which are obstacles that require endurance, courage, excess adrenaline and an adventurous spirit from visitors.

The park is suitable for recreation, exercises and competitions. The length of the park is 340m, of which 190m is a "zip-line" system and 150m.

Uvac meanders

Only 10 km away from Zlatar, Special Natural Reserve „Uvac“ is located. It is famous for its three lakes (Uvačko, Zlatarsko and Radoinjsko) that appeared after the construction of a dam on the river. The serpentine meanders of Uvac river represent a special touristic attraction along with the habitat, one of the biggest in Europe, with rare species of the scavenger bird Griffon Vulture. The vicinity of the Zlatibor and Tara mountains is ideal for various excursions to Mokra Gora with the Šargan Eight train ride, Kusturica’s Kustendorf and Andrićgrad, Drina river canyon, and an exceptionally culturaly rich heritage sight – Mileševa monastery. Nature lovers will surely enjoy a trip to the Pešter highland located at 1.492 m altitude along with other mountain areas that are spectacular sights to discover.
