World Music Day – Make Music Day
Today, World Music Day is celebrated in more than 120 countries across the Globe. World Music Day is a day to organize free events in public places. It is a day to celebrate and appreciate music and to encourage amateur musicians and young artists to perform.
Unfortunately, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we will have to accommodate the “new normal” and perhaps celebrate within certain safety boundaries. However, nothing stops us to at least play a bit louder your favorite tune on the stereo.
World Music Day – history
For the celebration of the World Music Day, we should thank MR Jack Lange, the former French minister of art and culture. It all happened during the Summer Solstice in France in the 1982. The Solstice was observed and MR Lange along with Maurice Fleuret came across the idea to start the “Fête de la Musique in Paris”, today known as an alternative to World Music Day.
Fleuret, who accompanied French minister during the Summer Solstice was a French composer. She worked as a music journalist, and radio producer as well. Her passion for music led to establishment of “Fête de la Musique”. Amazingly, around 8% of France participate in this event. That means that around 5 million French people played some instrument on the “Fête de la Musique”!
39th World Music Day – Make Music Day

There are many events in Belgrade and Serbia today as well, so I will share only some of them:
The National Theater in Belgrade announced an open-air event on Republic Square.
The cultural institution Božidarac invites a gift -concert on the World Day of Outdoor Music in the park of Vojvoda Petar Bojović in Vračar starting at 6 pm and 8 pm.
Irena Gatalica, a first-year student from the Faculty of Music in Belgrade in the class of Professor Dejan Božić, will play tonight at the Student Cultural Center (SKC). The program includes works by Bach, Frank, Piatia, Granados, and Popper.
Tonight, in Novi Sad, The Music Youth of Novi Sad announced that they are celebrating the World Music Day this year as part of the Novi Sad Music Summer event, with the performance of the Vojvodina Symphony Orchestra and popular songs of symphony and opera literature from the world of art music.
