Springs of river Grza

Resort and river Grza

In Eastern Serbia, not so far from Paracin city, the springs of river Grza are located. Grza is just 23 km long and originates from the tributaries of Ivanštica, ie Gornja and Grza, and Velika Čestobrdica. Grza itself is a left tributary of the river Crnica, which flows through Paracin, and flows slightly further into the West Morava. Ivanštica together with its tributaries Vrelska Padina, Crvena reka, Suva reka and Begrovac, Svinarski potok and Velika Čestobrdica forms a very interesting relief. Shorter gorges and meanders where relict vegetation is present have been cut along the entire length of the stream.

How to get to the river Grza, springs and resorts

The valleys of Velika Morava and Timok are connected by the main road Paraćin - Zaječar, which follow the rivers Grza and Čestobrdica for almost the entire length. Only the tourist place Grza is located about 20 km from Paracin. On the mentioned main road from the direction Paracin - Zajecar, at 18 kilometers, there is a turn for the "Tourist Complex Grza".

When you are traveling from Belgrade, you will need a little more than 2 hours to reach the Grza picnic area, or about 180 km. The road from Nis is almost half shorter - 98 km. When you reach the restaurant Kolibe (Cottages), there are only a few km left until the destination. There are two options in front of you, continue by car or continue foot. If you decide to take a walk, the path will take you along the river itself. The road itself is tidy and well-marked so you won't have any problems.

Grza - an attractive excursion place

The surrounding nature is stunning, and the first stop along the way will leave you breathless. Namely, when the weather is nice, the Lower Lake that you first come across is simply fairytale-like. Shades of green and turquoise blue shine in the lake.

Then the road takes you across the Upper Lake to the spring of Grza, from where icy spring water erupts. The sound of waterfalls completes the idyllic atmosphere. Waterfalls are especially pronounced during the spring when the water fund is the richest. The area around the spring is arranged, so you can find wooden "mushroom" huts and have a picnic there.

There are two lookouts above the Grza picnic area, which can be reached by well-marked forest trails of medium difficulty. The climb takes about 30 minutes, and when you climb you will find an ideal place to rest, shade under a beech tree and a source of ice water.

Grza River - a paradise for fishermen

Both lakes are attractive destinations for anglers. The lakes are rich in brown trout as well as California trout. A particularly attractive part is the place where the river enters the lake, and if you are lucky, you can observe the magnificent trout jumps.

The upper lake is shallower than the lower and easier to fish. However, the Lower Lake, although more demanding for fishing, hides very large specimens of trout on its bottom - real capitals.
